For Decontamination of Cracks in Concrete Floors and Slabs
P/N: A08001902 (PDF version)
The SQUIRREL®-II is a single piston, pneumatically driven scabbler with localized exhaust that safely removes radioactivity, PCB’s, chemical residues and other hazardous materials from cracks in concrete floors and slabs. This manually operated scabbler has been specifically designed to follow random cracks in concrete floors and slabs in an environmentally safe manner with a unique vacuum flow design that offers high efficiency control over dust, debris and airborne contamination.
The SQUIRREL®-II uses high-speed reciprocating tungsten carbide tipped bits to access deeply settled contamination within cracks or fractures in floors. The operator manually guides the specially designed floating work head with fingertip ease along the cracks, while standing erect to eliminate operator fatigue. This specially designed work head also isolates vibration from the operator and eliminates fatigue associated with conventional scabblers. The SQUIRREL®-II is engineered with a sighting hole that is pneumatically illuminated, allowing the operator to view the crack and cutting bit at all times. In addition, the SQUIRREL®-II is equipped with an accurate depth control mechanism that allows for precise incremental scabbling up to 2-inches deep.
The SQUIRREL®-II is capable of cleaning out 50-60 linear feet of cracks at a depth of ¼-inch per hour. The vacuum flow design eliminates cross contamination and the need for containment structures, while also minimizing the need for respiratory protection. The SQUIRREL®-II also allows for absolute minimum waste generation because of its mechanical removal process and the 7/8-inch surgical cutting path. The SQUIRREL®-II can function as an independent tool or as an integral component of the Pentek Dustless Decontamination System.
Engineering controls to protect the environment and the worker are standard with all Pentek’s manual and robotic tools: Corner-Cutter® needle guns, Roto-Peen Scalers, SQUIRREL®-III and SQUIRREL®-I floor scabblers and MOOSE® robotic scabbler. The SQUIRREL®-II, like the equipment above, is anchored by the VAC-PAC® high performance HEPA vacuum and drumming system that has a two-stage filtration system and offers an automatic self-cleaning mechanism that minimizes filter overload and eliminates downtime and maintenance.
